THIS THING CALLED LIFE

If you could call life a coin, then i
must have been a numismatic.
I know the number of rims at the
edge and i know the dates, they were forged.

I've seen the two sides of this coin life
and realized
its a game of heads or tail,
but
I've studied this game, i know the drills,
the cheats, the ways, but
sadly in life,
its not all the same.

If you could call life a candle then i
must have been the studious student.
Restraining slumber,
i read through the
night just that my
unknown
tomorrow would be bright.

I know the length of this candle life.
The brighter your hopes, the
swifter it melts.
I've studied this
candle, its guile,
its sanctimonious
apparel, the bigger your dreams,
the shorter your candle seems.

if you could call life a country,
then i must have been a Nigerian.
I know what happens behind the scenes.
The baobab
tree whispered all the secrets.
I've
heard its not what you know,
but
rather who you know.

I've heard that smartness is needed
and intelligence rather vain,
in pain i watch them fly over on the wings of a foul bird,
and
weeping i swim over this cold ocean called life.

If you could read in between my lines,
if you could comprehend
all i said,
you'd realize life is a
pitch night,
and humans with
infinitesimal torches,
knowing not
from whence they came,
nor to
where they go.

Now you know, mankind' struggles is vain
and in summary, all depends on the most high God.
